How do you manage discipline within the school?
Children behave best when they are actively involved in fun projects.
They are less likely to misbehave when they are busy. Children behave
better when they follow a routine or schedule. We make every attempt
to follow the same schedule every day. Children know the rules and
what to expect throughout the day.
When children do misbehave, the teacher will use redirection first. If
that fails to solve the problem, we will use time alone for an
appropriate amount of time based upon the child's age. The older
classrooms also use a behavior management chart: red, yellow, and
green. Children are encouraged to stay on "green."
Overall good behavior can be rewarded with stickers or activities that
they enjoy.

In general, our teacher-student ratios are lower than the state
standards allow. Each room is different.

Who are your teachers?
To be a lead teacher at Rocking Horse Academy, you should have your
Child Development Associate Credential (CDA) as a minimum standard;
however, a few of our leads were hired based on their extensive
experience and training rather than formal education. Teachers with
Associates degrees, Bachelors degrees, or Masters degrees are
preferred. Many of our Assistant teachers and teacher's aides also
have certifications or degrees and/or are working on Bachelor's
degrees at our local universities. They also have experience working
with children. We try to have at least one bilingual teachers in
every classroom as well.
Our teachers are all given a criminal history background check. They
must also complete at least 15 hours of training every year to
maintain their positions.
